Mixer to get year rolling
West Prince chamber hitting membership target
Tammy Rix had a busy summer.
The executive director of the recently rejuvenated West Prince Chamber of Commerce has been helping the chamber’s board of directors plot out a year of activities, beginning with a ‘Greet & Grow’ business mixer next Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Holland College West Prince Campus.
When she took on the position early in the summer, Rix indicated she was hoping to help grow the chamber to 100 members by the end of summer. By Aug. 30 there were 97 signed-up members and Rix was confident of hitting the target by end of the day.
Of course, that just leads to a new objective, Rix admits, suggesting 125 members by year’s end is not unrealistic.
“The West Prince Chamber is at an exciting crossroads and ready for its next development,” Rix advises perspective members.
There are about 1,800 small businesses, including farmers and fishermen, in West Prince, and Rix wants the chamber to be a voice for them all. As membership grows, networking opportunities also increase. Upcoming West Prince chamber events to help with that include the West Prince Chamber of Commerce’s first annual golf tournament on Oct. 6 and a Small Business Week breakfast meeting the following week.
Rix said a schedule of meetings and special events is in place right through until next June. Sub-committees have been formed to help with the planning.
During the Sept. 6 mixer, Brent Gallant will explain the benefits of the Chamber Group Insurance Plan. There will also be presentations form Ellen Rennie, human resources specialist with CBDC, and Debbie Brady from Graphically Speaking.
West Prince is one of six chambers across P.E.I. and Rix said they are part of a network of about 95 chambers, or Boards of Trade, consisting of 16,000 members across Atlantic Canada.
Also during the mixer, which runs from 7 to 9 p.m., the West Prince chamber’s new website will be officially launched.
