Without being negative, lot of things need fixing

-

I better be careful for what I ask for and some people should stop calling me negative.

Years ago I went before a government committee and wanted one MLA for every 8,000 people. I believed Summerside should only have two MLAs.

I opposed mixed rural and municipal ridings after the Conservatives made changes. Summerside will have two ridings and the communities outside of Summerside will have their own MLAs.

I wanted to see the merger of the Summerside Port Authority, SRDC (Summerside Regional Development corporation) and City of Summerside Economic Development department.

There are too many economic development agencies.

The province bought out Slemon Park and is now shelving SRDC. I hope the province puts money in the old airports runways.

I want all the municipalities under the Access to Information Act. Summerside still isn’t disclosing enough information.

I want all the municipal police forces on P.E.I. disbanded and merged into a provincial police force. There are a lot of good young police officers; it is the leadership of some of the senior officers that is the problem.

Finally people who say I’m negative, I pursued students being tested in Grade 3, 6, 9 and 12 for reading ability and reading comprehension. Yet, 43 per cent of Islanders have problems with literacy.

The deputy governor of the Bank of Canada warned Canadians about needing better education for automation as Canadian companies need to increase their productivity.
