A 27-year-old Ellerslie man has been sentenced for his part in a brutal beating that took place in Mount Pleasant in June.

Kyle George Robinson pleaded guilty on July 20 to one count of aggravated assault. He was sentenced on Sept. 5 to four years in jail, minus four months for time he’s already spent in custody.

He was also ordered to pay $200 in victim surcharges, must submit a DNA sample to the national criminal database and is prohibited from owning weapons for 10 years. Robinson and his victim, a 59-year-old man, knew each other.

According to the agreed statement of facts in this case, the assault took place on the evening of June 16.

Prior to the assault, the victim and Robinson were involved in a scuffle earlier in the day at the victim’s home. The argument was reportedly over Robinson’s drug use. According to the victim’s adult son, who was present during the fight, the two men appeared to end their altercation amicably and “hugged it out.”

Robinson left the home and so did the victim’s son. Later in the evening the son got a call from his father over which he heard his father say, “you’re back” and then what sounded like another fight broke out.

The son rushed back to his father’s home and found him in a pool of blood, struggling to stand up.

The victim’s injuries were severe, resulting in the loss of many of his teeth, shattering of his nose, skull fractures, some of which later resulted in dangerous infections, swelling and more.

The RCMP investigation later revealed that after leaving the victim’s home the first time, Robinson called some friends and told them he’d been jumped.

He asked them for a drive back to the victim’s home, and once there, asked one of them to come into the home with him.

The two men were reportedly in the home for “less than a minute” before they ran back to the car and told the driver to leave immediately.

The victim’s son arrived shortly thereafter and found his father severely injured. Robinson was arrested a few days later on June 20.
