P.E.I. Liberals rebound: CRA poll

- BY TERESA WRIGHT

Support for the governing Liberal Party of P.E.I. has rebounded this quarter, according to the latest Corporate Research Associates poll.

The party dropped to its lowest level of support in more than a decade last quarter, but this quarter is back up by seven points. The Liberal party is the preferred party of choice in P.E.I. at 45 per cent.

The Green party, meanwhile, has lost ground. Last quarter it was tied for second place at 26 per cent with the Opposition Progressive Conservatives, but has since dropped by eight points to 18 per cent.

The Tories are down two points to 24 per cent and the NDP is up two points at 12 per cent this quarter.

One-quarter of Islanders remains undecided, do not know who they will vote for or refused to answer, which is virtually unchanged.

With regards to government satisfaction, one-half of P.E.I. residents say they are satisfied with the overall performance of the government, while just over four in 10 residents are dissatisfied at 43 per cent, a rate that has decreased by five points since May.

Unlike his party, Premier Wade MacLauchlan’s personal popularity did not see a major upswing, gaining only two points this quarter to sit at 24 per cent. Year-over-year he has lost 20 points in personal support.

Green Leader Peter Bevan-Baker remains the most popular party leader in P.E.I. at 37 per cent, unchanged since May. Interim PC Leader Jamie Fox went from 15 to 13 per cent this quarter. NDP Leader Mike Redmond is at five per cent, which is on par with where he was this time last year.

The results of the poll are based on a sample of 301 adult Prince Edward Islanders, conducted from Aug. 3 to Sept. 5 with overall results accurate to within plus or minus 5.6 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
