Concert honours ladies of country music

-

This Sunday the Princetown United Church presents a tribute show, “Lady Singers of Our Century” (Tanya Tucker, Rita MacNeil, Loretta Lynn, Emmy Lou Harris, Patsy Cline and Lynda Rondstad).

Hosts Judy McGregor and Joan Reeves will be joined by Jolee Patkai, Keila Glydon and Colleen MacPhee to perform the songs of these country music artists.

Singer/songwriter Patkai has released two CDs “Going Home” and “Shore Rhapsody.” A member of the group, “Treble With Girls,” she will be paying tribute to Loretta Lynn and EmmyLou Harris.

Glydon, who performs with Dino and the Harmonies and Phase 11, has written many songs, many of which can be found on her latest gospel CD, “Here I am Lord.” She will be paying tribute to Patsy Cline and Linda Rondstad. MacPhee, originally from Georgetown, has been singing and playing guitar since the age of 12.

She has two recordings to her credit. She will be paying tribute to Rita MacNeil, one of her favourite female artists. McGregor and Reeves, also known as comic duo, Ding and Dong, have been singing together for many years, producing a harmony that only siblings can. They will be adding lots of humour and stories as they pay tribute to Tanya Tucker and the MacGuire Sisters.

The performers note that their audience members are often singing along to every song and the music is familiar to them and brings back great memories. The Sept. 17 show starts at 7:30 p.m.

This concert is a fundraiser in support of the Princetown church, located on Route 20 in Malpeque.

There will be a sale of ice cream topped with strawberries at intermission.

Tickets are $12 at the door, which opens at 6:30 p.m.
