Showcase of Canadian creative expression in Summerside

SESQUI and ‘Horizon’ at Credit Union Place Oct. 2 and 3

-

SESQUI, a Canada 150 Signature Initiative, came to Summerside Monday, Oct. 2, and will remain for Tuesday, Oct. 3. SESQUI, which has travelled across the country, consists of the showing of the film “Horizon” using revolutionary 360-degree cinematic viewing. “Horizon” is an inspiring showcase of Canadian creative expression that unfolds from coast to coast to coast taking the audience on a revealing expedition from the highest peaks to the deepest seas, and through all 10 provinces and three territories. Drawing upon artistic inspiration from across Canada’s rich cultural mosaic, the film features traditional and contemporary creative works set in the unforgettable urban and natural landscapes of our diverse nation. “Horizon”, which is being called “an immersive journey into the heart, soul, and future of Canada,” will be shown from inside the Science East inflatable dome, placed in the convention centre of Credit Union Place. The cutting edge cinematic technology places the viewer in the centre of the action.

SESQUI is being hosted by the City of Summerside and Prince Edward Island Department of Education. On both dates Island students are booked to view the film during school hours, then at 2:30 p.m. it will open to the general public, and run every half hour through to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free. As the dome only holds 25 people it is suggested to arrive early as not to be disappointed.

In celebration of Canada’s 150 anniversary as a country, “Horizon” gives youth and adults a view into the place they call home. Credit Union Place, is located at 511 Notre Dame Street.

The only other P.E.I. opportunity to participate in this Canada-wide project was the Farm Day in the City in Charlottetown on Sunday, Oct. 1.
