EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a list of noteworthy incidents and investigat­ions undertaken by Prince District RCMP between Sept. 25 and Oct. 1:

Landmark defaced

On Sept. 25, East Prince RCMP received a complaint of damage to a community landmark in Spring Valley. The damage– spray-painted graffiti– is believed to have occurred between Sept. 22 and 25. The investigat­ion is continuing.

Sexual assault charge laid

East Prince RCMP received a complaint of sexual assault in Lennox Island on Sept. 25. Upon investigat­ion, one 62-year-old man was arrested and charged under the criminal code. He is due to appear in court late November.

Splash pad damaged

West Prince RCMP received a complaint on Sept. 25 of damage to a children’s splash pad in Tignish. Spray paint had been used to cause graffiti, with the incident believed to have occurred overnight between midnight and daylight hours.

Oyster dory damaged, items stolen

On Sept. 26, West Prince RCMP received a call of damage to an oyster dory in Hebron, as well as theft of property from it.

The incident is believed to have taken place between Sept. 25 and 26. The rope anchored to the dory had been cut, setting the boat adrift. Theft includes about 15 trays and $200 worth of oysters. The investigat­ion is continuing.

Man comes looking for fight

On Sept. 26 East Prince RCMP were called to the residence of a 40-year-old male in Central Bedeque.

The call came in around 6:30 p.m., stating a 35-year-old man was at the house wanting to fight and would not leave. Both men had been messaging insults to one another in the previous days. Both parties were told to cease contact with one another.

Dog attacks electricia­n

An electricia­n working at a site on Route 233 in Norboro was attack by a dog at approximat­ely 11 a.m. on Sept. 27. The dog grabbed the man’s wrist and hauled him to the ground. The male was treated for his injuries. The matter is still under investigat­ion.

Investigat­e vehicles complaint at arena

On Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. East Prince RCMP was dispatched to the parking lot of the Tyne Valley arena to investigat­e a complaint of vehicles tearing around on a new load of gravel. Upon patrol, no vehicles were located, however, the investigat­ion is ongoing.

Mountain bike stolen

East Prince RCMP received a complaint on Sept. 28, of a stolen mountain bike. The bike is believed to have been taken from a residence on Borden Avenue in Borden-Carleton sometime between Sept. 23 and 25. The bike is described as red and black, black handlebars and seat, with a bottle holder installed on the 20 inch frame.

HL: Lighthouse spraypaint­ed

West Prince RCMP received a complaint of damage to the lighthouse located at Tignish Shore on Sept. 28. Orange spray paint had been used to graffiti one side of the lighthouse.

It is believed to have happened sometime between Sept. 23 and Sept. 26. The investigat­ion is ongoing.

Two in altercatio­n at church picnic

On Sept. 29, at around 4:30 p.m. West Prince RCMP responded to a disturbanc­e at a church picnic in O’Leary. A 41-year-old female and the 34-year-old female were told to stay away from each other. Both declined to provide statements to the police.

Driver gets out of ditch, speeds off

On Sept. 30, East Prince RCMP received a call from a complainan­t who had stopped to help the driver of a black SUV that was in the ditch in Portage.

The call came in around 11 p.m. The vehicle got out of the ditch, spinning tires, then headed towards Summerside. No plate number was obtained.

Fire destroys Margate home

On Oct. 1, at approximat­ely 5 a.m. East Prince RCMP responded to a call of a house fire in Margate. New London and Kensington Fire Department­s attended.

The owner and his six dogs managed to get out, but the home was completely destroyed. The fire seems to have originated in the garage. Police and the provincial fire marshal are investigat­ing.

Police investigat­e traffic complaints

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 20 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erraticall­y, parking unsafely and speeding. RCMP will continue to conduct checkpoint­s and patrol throughout the month of October in various communitie­s across Prince District, targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
