Co-ops celebrating Co-op Week
Number of events planned for this week in Evangeline region
Evangeline area co-operatives, which remain solid and ready to meet any challenge, feel it is important to keep celebrating and sharing their successes. That’s what they are hoping to do in as they participate in Co-op and Small Business Week.
Four Co-op events are being planned to celebrate the week in the region, often referred to as the Co-op capital of the world on a per-capita basis. The largest of these four events, the Co-operators’ Supper or “Co-op Forum”, was a success in 2016, so organizers decided to repeat it this year. The gathering, set for Oct. 19, will give the opportunity to representatives of each of the area’s co-ops to have supper together and share their successes and future plans. During the informal event, held at Evangeline School cafeteria, the Co-ops will present the Co-op Order of Merit to a deserving co-operator. Participation at this event is by invitation only.
All co-operative members and the general public are, however, invited to all three of the other events. On Wednesday, Oct. 18, the Chez-Nous Co-op will hold an afternoon open house at its community care facility for elderly citizens in Wellington, starting at 1:30 p.m. There will be music, snacks and door prizes. Everyone is invited to visit the residents, many of whom were founders of the region’s many co-ops.
The Evangeline Central-Credit Union will celebrate Credit Union Day at its three branches in Wellignton, Tyne Valley and O’Leary. Draws, prizes and snacks will be featured. Everyone is invited to drop in and donate non-perishable goods for the food drive being held for the Summerside and Tyne Valley food banks.
Finally, on Friday, Oct. 20, Wellington Co-op will host Co-op Day. Throughout the day, each person who makes a purchase will win a prize (some will be big, some small).
