Young Millionaire excellence award handed out
Isaac MacLean may have made his biggest sale yet, at the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce’s breakfast with the premier.
“I sold one of my paintings to the premier. That was pretty cool.” On Wednesday the 11-year-old received the Award of Excellence for the 2017 Young Millionaire’s program.
Isaac sold paintings for the past year with prices ranging from $5 to $15, for bookmarks, 4x6 and 5x7 sizes.
“All the paintings were of Island scenes. Some I painted ahead of time, others I created right on the spot.” MacLean said he learned a lot from the program.
“It was a lot of fun and you get the chance to own your own business but also work with other professionals who teach you. I really enjoyed it.” Winning the award was a shock, he added.
“It was really cool to find out about this. I only found out Tuesday that I would be getting this. I got to meet so many cool people. This is nice.”
The Young Millionaire’s Program aims to assist youth between the ages of eight and 16 to discover more about business and help them get started in a business of their own. The program teaches business and life skills, develops positive self-esteem and confidence, link youth with community leaders and supports youth in owning and operating their own business. “Getting this award kind of makes you feel like the work you did makes it worthwhile, like your hard work really paid off.”
