Southwest Lot 16 cottage robbed

The following is a list of noteworthy incidents and investigat­ions undertaken by Prince District RCMP between Oct. 9 and 15:

On Oct. 9 at about 11 a.m., police received a complaint of a break, enter and theft. As a result of breaking a lock on a shed located on a cottage lot in Southwest Lot 16, a theft of several tools occurred. The stolen items include a compound mitre saw, a table saw, a toolbox full of wrenches, several screwdrive­rs and a cordless drill. The theft is believed to have taken place a few days prior to reporting the incident, and the investigat­ion is underway.

Water pump stolen

On Oct. 9, a theft of a water pump from a developmen­t site in North Carleton was reported to police. The theft is believed to have occurred between Oct. 6 and 9, and police are following leads on the investigat­ion. HL: False alarm tent

On Oct. 10 at around 11 a.m., RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious tent in Victoria. Police were requested to investigat­e a tent set up on a landowner’s private property. The owner was concerned someone was camping there without permission. Police attended the location but no campers were found. It was determined the tent had blown there from another location.

Extra patrols in Elmsdale

After receiving a complaint of vehicles speeding on Route 2 in Elmsdale, RCMP will be conducting extra patrols in the area this upcoming month. The complainan­t advised the speeding vehicles were in the area at about 3 p.m., during after-school hours.

Vacant home destroyed

On Oct. 12 at about 12:30 a.m., West Prince RCMP responded to a structure fire on Route 153 in Greenmount. The house had been vacant for a few years. The matter is still under investigat­ion.

HL: Impaired man charged Shortly after noon on Oct. 14, East Prince RCMP responded to a residence in Lennox Island after receiving a complaint of an intoxicate­d male disturbing the peace. The 29-year-old male was arrested and transporte­d to Prince County Jail. He was charged with mischief and breaching his probation, and is due to appear in court in mid-December.

Firecracke­r set off outside home

Police are investigat­ing a suspicious occurrence that was reported just before midnight on Oct. 14 in Central Lot 16. A resident of Route 12 called to report a small firecracke­r explosion that was set off outside a window of her residence.

Two crashes in one day

On Oct. 15 at about 2 p.m., police responded to a motorcycle collision on Route 11 in St. Raphael. The driver was transporte­d to the hospital with nonlife-threatenin­g injuries.

Later that night at bout 7:30 p.m., East Prince RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision on Route 2 in New Annan. A minivan was in the ditch and the 63-year-old male driver, who was uninjured, showed signs of intoxicati­on.

He provided breath samples over the legal limit, was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and issued a driving prohibitio­n. He is due to appear in court in late November.

Troubling traffic reports

There have been a few reports of vehicles failing to stop when school buses activate their red lights. Drivers are urged to pay attention to flashing yellow lights warning drivers to slow down and prepare to stop. When the red lights of school buses activate, be cognizant that students may be crossing the road. The fine for passing a school bus with activated red flashing lights is $1,000 with the loss of eight demerit points.

Traffic complaints

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 22 traffic-related complaints. These pertained mostly to vehicles alleged to be driving erraticall­y, parking unsafely, and speeding. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoint­s and patrols throughout the remainder of October in various communitie­s across Prince District targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
