middle of the Great Depression. Alfred Kralik (played by Adam Gauthier), head clerk of Matuschek and Co., is highly unimpressed by his boss’s newest headstrong employee, Klara Novak (played by Teresa Wright), who is equally uninspired by Kralik’s unwavering perfectionism. While at odds with one another in the workplace, both are able to temper their aggravation through anonymous pen pals with whom they each exchange long, soul-searching letters.
Also serving as the basis for the Judy Garland musical “In the Good Old Summertime” and the Meg Ryan/ Tom Hanks movie “You’ve Got Mail,” “The Shop Around the Corner” is a fun, light-hearted, feel-good play.
