Stompin’ Tom to receive star on Canada’s Walk of Fame
Inductees to be honoured at Toronto gala
Stompin’ Tom Connors may be gone, but his star is still shining bright.
Connors was announced this week as one of six additions to Canada’s Walk of Fame.
His citation reads,”(An) iconic songwriter and musician whose legacy extends beyond nearly 5 million records sold in his career into the hearts, homes and classrooms of countless Canadians across the country.”
Connors was born in Saint John. N.B., but spent much of his childhood in Skinners Pond, P.E.I. His connections to the Island remained strong throughout his long music career. He was 77 when he passed away in 2013.
All the inductees will be honoured at the Beyond Famous Gala on Nov. 15 at the Liberty Grand in Toronto. The event will also feature the unveiling of a special star for Canada in commemoration of Canada 150.
The other inductees this year include: legendary sprinter and two-time Olympic champion Donovan Bailey, civil-rights pioneer Viola Desmond, Academy Award winning actress Anna Paquin, businessman Ted Rogers, and scientist, broadcaster and environmentalist David Suzuki.
“The remarkable achievements of our 2017 inductees are truly inspirational and embody what it means for an individual to achieve beyond fame. We are honoured to recognize their incredible accomplishments this year,” said Jeffrey Latimer, CEO of Canada’s Walk of Fame.
With 2017’s inductees, Canada’s Walk of Fame will have honoured 173 Canadians since it was founded in 1998.
