Caps hit the road

For two games in Edmundston

-

The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals will face two challenging tests on the road this weekend.

The Caps will play back-toback games against the Eastlink North Division-leading Edmundston Blizzard on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.

The Blizzard, formerly the Dieppe Commandos, is off to a 9-3-0-0 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses) start to the 2017-18 MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) regular season.

The Capitals, coming off a 4-1 win at the Woodstock Slammers (4-6-3-0) last Saturday, enter weekend play at 6-6-1-0. In the lone previous meeting between the teams, the Blizzard defeated the Caps 7-4 in Summerside on Oct. 15.

Goaltender

The Capitals acquired 20-year-old goaltender Brayden Lachance from the Cobourg Cougars in exchange for future considerations earlier this week.

Lachance had a 3.90 goalsagainst average and .878 save percentage in three games with the Cougars this season. Last year, he appeared in 35 games with the Aurora Tigers, posting a 4.30 goals-against average and .904 save percentage.

The Cougars and Tigers play in the Ontario Junior Hockey League.

These will be the third and fourth games of a stretch of five straight away from home for the Caps.

After Sunday’s game the Caps will have a full 10 days off from game action before resuming play in New Glasgow, N.S., against the Pictou County Crushers on Thursday, Nov. 9. The Caps’ next home game at Eastlink Arena is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18, against the Crushers.

That game will open a fourgame homestand.
