-

Lee Ellen Pottie will be the featured reader at the P.E.I. Writers’ Guild open mic on Thursday at Receiver Coffee Co. in Charlottetown. All are welcome to this free event.

The Nov. 9, open mic offers the opportunity for the first 10 writers who sign up to read during the first hour of the evening, which should include poetry or prose. Each reader is allotted five minutes.

Following a brief intermission, Pottie will take the floor to present her work.

Pottie is a self-employed coordinator of many things, an editor, writer, reviewer, and occasional professor at Misr International University in Cairo and an amateur photographer and painter.

She is completing a poetry manuscript about Vincent Van Gogh, based on his letters and art, and her research. Eight of these poems will be published by Alfred Gustav Press in 2018 in a chapbook called “Worthless.”

Pottie has published poetry in the “Windsor Review” and the anthology “Snow Softly Falling: Holiday Stories from Prince Edward Island” and forthcoming in “Canada: 150 Years of Poetry.” “Saturday Morning Chapbooks” published her chapbook called “From Push through to Madagascar.”

In October, she was a participant in the poetry workshop at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.

Pottie holds an honours BA in English from UPEI (1999) and an MA in English and creative writing from the University of Windsor (2000). She lives in P.E.I. with her husband, Richard Lemm, and their dog, Théo, named for Van Gogh’s brother. The open mic begins at 7 p.m. at the Receiver Coffee Co. at 128 Richmond St.

The P.E.I. Writers’ Guild Open Mic Series will continue to run on the second Thursday of each month.
