Larsen’s late goal earns Wildcats tie
Mid-Isle holds pre-game ceremony to mark Veterans’ Week 2017
For the second game in a row, the Mid-Isle Wildcats and Kings County Kings skated to a tie.
The teams played to a 5-5 draw in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League on Friday night.
Makayla Larsen’s goal in the final minute of the third period, with an extra attacker on the ice, earned the Wildcats a point at the APM Centre.
The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period, and the Wildcats took a 3-2 advantage into the final frame. Kings County rallied to take a 5-3 third-period lead, but the Wildcats answered back. Lexie Murphy led the Wildcats with two goals and two assists, and single goals also came off the sticks of Carla Stewart (1-1) and Sophie Flynn. Jacqueline Mix (2) and Maggie Linkletter added assists.
Kelly Clements netted a hat trick to lead the Kings. Lily MacKinnon and Gabrielle MacDonald also scored, with Kyara Somers chipping in with an assist.
Goaltenders were Hannah LeClair (Wildcats) and Abby Sherry (Kings).
Pre-game ceremony
As part of Veterans’ Week 2017, the Wildcats invited those in attendance to pay tribute to Canadian veterans who have served in the various conflicts of the 20th and 21st century. The pre-game ceremony included the playing of The Last Post, followed by a moment of silence and concluded with the singing of O Canada by Joanie Pickens.

The Wildcats also welcomed the North River Novice Cherry Cupcakes team as special guests at Friday’s game as part of the ‘Cats Give Back’ program this year.
The Cupcakes were treated to special seating, had an opportunity to meet the Mid-Isle players, received a tour of the Wildcats’ dressing and were treated to pizza.
