Phase II performing for fundraising concert

- BY MEGAN BUTLER

General News

Phase II will be performing a Christmas Concert in Westisle’s theatre on Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. This performance is a fundraiser for the school library. Tickets are $10 and can be bought at the main office in Westisle, Eugene’s General Store in Tignish, Alberton Irving, Brennan’s Kwik Way, and Ellerslie Red and White. We are also seeking volunteers to help with the evening and to make fudge for the intermission.

Grade 12 students will soon receive an unofficial transcript to their school email inbox. These can be used for early admission, on-the-spot admission, scholarships, etc. If students have any questions regarding these, they are encouraged to meet with the guidance office.

The cafeteria at Westisle is now serving gluten-free options. Students can purchase wraps, sub buns, and pasta. To prevent any cross-contamination students who are interested in these options are being asked to pre-order their lunch in the morning.

Westisle’s clothing website can be found at http:// westislecompositehighschool. entripyshops.com for anyone interested in purchasing Westisle merchandise. There is a variety of sizes, styles, and prices to choose from, with customizable graphics, logos, and embroidery. These make a great Christmas gift. Students are asked to keep any customizations appropriate.

At the P.E.I. Teachers Federation convention, one of the topics in focus was mental health. A recommended website can be found at www.anxietybc.com, which offers great strategies for coping with anxiety.

On Dec. 8 Westisle will hold the annual Christmas dance (with a scheduled storm date of Dec. 15). The last day of classes for 2017 will be Dec. 22 and students will come back Jan. 3, 2018.

Guidance

A new counsellor is joining the staff in the guidance office. Shelby Hamill will be a fulltime counsellor until the end of the school year, taking over for Amy McFeely while she is on maternity leave. We would like to welcome Shelby to our school and encourage all students to drop in and say hello. She will be overtaking all postsecondary correspondence and will be meeting with Grade 12 students in the near future. Also congratulations to Ms. McFeely. The IWK is offering a Future Health Research and Innovations Scholarship. The deadline for this will be March 1, 2018. Contact guidance with further questions.
