Christmas at Harbourfront

Host of holiday programs at Summerside theatre includes music and theatre productions

-

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas when you walk through the doors at Harbourfront Theatre. Harbourfront’s volunteers have transformed the theatre lobby into a place of festive cheer to kick off the Harbourfront holiday season. This December, Harbourfront welcomes numerous Christmas-themed performances to the stage. Fandango Musical Players presents “Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol: the Broadway Musical” Nov. 24, 25, and 30 as well as on Dec. 1 and 2.

On Dec. 8, students of the Atlantic Academy of Performing Arts perform “Christmas Spectacular,” an evening of music and theatre and Christmas celebrations for all to enjoy.

As for Harbourfront itself, the theatre is presenting two shows of its own this Christmas season: “Le Trio BBQ Christmas” on Dec. 9 and “Home for the Holidays” on Dec. 15. “Le Trio BBQ Christmas” is a bilingual holiday show featuring French-Canadian band Le Trio BBQ with vocalist Katerine Desrochers, drummer Véronique Boucher, and barbershop quartet VoxA4. Students from École-Sur-Mer in Summerside will join the band for a song during the night of rock ’n’ roll and gypsy-inspired jazz Christmas music.

On Dec. 15, “Home for the Holidays” returns to the Harbourfront stage. Don Fraser brings Catherine O’Brien, Marlane O’Brien, Caroline Bernard, Kendall Docherty, and the Reindeer Express band to Harbourfront for a night of Christmas classics and new holiday hits.

“’Home for the Holidays’ is known as a Christmas favourite here on the Island,” noted Harbourfront theatre marketing co-ordinator, Brenna Boudreau.

“December certainly is a busy month for Islanders, but we want to encourage people to slow down and take the time to really enjoy this season. Coming to the theatre is the perfect way to spend a relaxing night with those you love,” suggests Harbourfront’s executive director Kieran Keller.

“You can come be entertained instead of being busy doing the entertaining this holiday season.”

Harbourfront’s box office is open 12 to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, and any extra holiday hours added for the theatre can be found on their Facebook page and website. Visit harbourfronttheatre.com for more information about their upcoming shows.
