Francis nets winning goal for Wildcats

Mid-Isle defeats Storm

Kennedy Francis lifted the Mid-Isle Wildcats to victory on Friday night.

Francis scored on a determined individual effort with 6:06 left in the second period to break a 1-1 tie, and Mid-Isle would go on to post a 3-1 victory.

The P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League game was played at the APM Centre.

The Wildcats opened the scoring at the seven-minute mark of the first period on a goal by Lexi Murphy, assisted by Makayla Larsen.

The Storm evened the score at the 13:30 mark of the second period as Alexis Power and Megan Batchilder set up Jessie Campbell.

The score remained 2-1 until Charlotte Linkletter netted an insurance marker on a feed from Larsen late in the third period.

Hannah LeClair earned the goaltendin­g win, and Emily Waugh tended goal for the Storm. Overall, the shots-ongoal totals were 35-18 in favour of the Wildcats.

Each team took three minor penalties.

Cats give back

The Wildcats welcomed the North River Strawberry Cupcakes’ novice team as special guests at Friday’s game as part of the ‘Cats Give Back’ program. The Strawberry Cupcakes’ Payton Matthews dropped the puck for the ceremonial faceoff. The team enjoyed special seating, a pizza party, a tour of the Wildcats’ dressing room, and met Mid-Isle’s players.
