54th Christmas Daddies Telethon on this weekend
CTV Atlantic once again brightens the season with the “54th Annual Christmas Daddies Telethon,” airing Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on CTV.
This Dec. 2 holiday event is also available for live streaming online throughout the day. CTV Atlantic upholds the station’s decades-old annual holiday tradition of uniting Maritimers in the spirit of giving to help families in need in their communities. Viewers can tune in to enjoy a mix of CTV personalities and performances from a roster of Maritime musicians across multiple cities, and extend their support by making a donation during the live broadcast. “Christmas Daddies is a timehonoured holiday TV tradition for CTV staff and viewers alike,” says Trent McGrath, vicepresident and general manager, CTV Atlantic. “It’s heartwarming each year to welcome back donors, performers, and volunteers who have supported this great cause for decades. “What makes it so worthwhile is the knowledge that many Maritime homes will be brighter this holiday season thanks to Christmas Daddies.”
Throughout the telethon, a robust lineup of Maritime artists will be delivering live musical performances at various locations. The Confederation Centre stage in Charlottetown hosts Jon Matthews and Kelley Mooney.
In addition, the telethon also celebrates homegrown talent, featuring performances by local school choirs and up-and-coming musicians throughout the show.
“54th Annual Christmas Daddies Telethon” is hosted by a roster of CTV personalities who come together to deliver the holiday spirit, fun, and excitement viewers have come to expect from the “Daddies” show.
Hosting this year in Halifax are CTV anchors Steve Murphy, Jayson Baxter, and Kelly Linehan alongside meteorologist Cindy Day.
They are joined by other CTV staff and alumni at locations across the Maritimes. Well-known comedian Jimmy the Janitor hosts the Charlottetown portion of the show. Christmas Daddies also features prizes for donors. By making a donation as little as $20, donors are eligible to win two airline tickets from the Air Canada Foundation and gas cards.
Throughout the telethon, Bell Media and Bell Aliant employees and retirees will be standing by to take donations. Viewers can call 1-844-400-1964, with phone lines opening at 10:30 a.m. Financial donations can also be made online at ChristmasDaddies.org, as well as at any RBC branch across the Maritimes.
The Annual Christmas Daddies Telethon has raised more than $28.5 million in its more than half-century history, with funds supplying gifts, clothing, and food for Maritime families and their children during the holiday season. CTV Atlantic’s partnership with The Salvation Army provides more than 17,000 Maritime children with toys and gifts at Christmas each year.
All financial donations are redistributed within their originating geographic area, allowing viewers to donate to neighbours within their own communities. CTV donates airtime, technical equipment, and resources for the event, while employees, families, and friends volunteer to produce the program.
