Athlete of month
Soccer standout named student-athlete of the month
Shannan Hill has been recognized as the Student Athlete of the Month at Kensington Intermediate-Senior High School.
It’s a busy senior year at Kensington Intermediate-Senior High School (KISH) for Shannan Hill.
Not only did the Kensington resident wear KISH’s green and white colours in two different sports during the fall, but she is also very involved in school life.
She competed in cross-country and played a key role in leading KISHORA – a combined team of players from KISH and Kinkora Regional High School – to the P.E.I. School Athletic Association (PEISAA) Senior A Girls Soccer League championship game, where they lost in penalty kicks to Charlottetown Rural.
Shannan’s contributions have not gone unnoticed as she has been named a PEISAA allstar, and KISH’s Greco Pizza/ Capt. Sub student-athlete of the month. “Shannan has been our leading goal-scorer,” noted KISHORA head coach Donald Mulligan, who is also KISH principal. “She uses her speed to create chances for herself and other players.
“Shannan has great ball control, and is a great team player. She has been a strong, quiet leader for the past three years, and helped lead the girls to the championship game all three years.”
The 17-year-old daughter of Carolyn Hill and Shawn Hill will also compete in badminton doubles in 2018. Outside of school, Shannan figure skates in Kensington, and has played summer soccer in the past.
Co-president
Along with her sports commitments, Shannan is also very active in school organizations. For example, she is co-president of KISH’s studentcouncil, is a member of both the jazz and concert bands and is a peer tutor. Following graduation from high school in June, Shannan plans to study science at university.
