Stammberger announces player commitment
For 2018-19 AUS season
Anna (Pendergast) Stammberger has announced the commitment of a player she feels will become a big part of the Dalhousie Tigers’ women’s basketball team. Bridget McSwiggan will join the Halifax-based university for the 2018-19 Atlantic University Sport season.
“We’re really excited to welcome Bridget into the Tiger family,” said Stammberger, a native of Kensington and a former athletic director at Kensington Intermediate-Senior
High School.
“With her solid six-foot-one frame, she has the potential to develop into a great physical post player. “We will be looking for Bridget to make an impact for the Tigers right away in rebounding and on defence.” A Barrhaven, Ont., native, McSwiggan played for the St. Mother Teresa High School team the last three years, and most recently helped them reach the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association playoffs this season.
McSwiggan also played two seasons with the Nepean Blue Devils, helping them to top-10 status in the province, before joining the Ottawa elite basketball program.
“I am thrilled to be coming to Dalhousie and join a young program with great coaches,” said McSwiggan. “I am really excited to improve my basketball skills, create camaraderie with my teammates and get a once-ina-lifetime student-athlete experience.” McSwiggan intends to enroll in Dalhousie’s bachelor of arts program.
A young Tigers’ squad, which is off to a 2-5 (won-lost) start, is looking to challenge for an AUS playoff spot this season.
