- Newsroom@journalpioneer.com

Consolidated Credit Union joined credit unions across the country in marking Financial Literacy Month by celebrating the national launch of an award-winning financial literacy program: Each One. Teach One.

The program, originally created by Vancity Credit Union in 2008, has expanded to include 60 Canadian Credit Union Association-affiliated credit unions, with more than 100 credit union employees certified to deliver financial literacy workshops in their own communities. Consolidated Credit Union is now certified to offer these workshops.

The Each One, Teach One program is delivered by credit union staff who volunteer to cover key topics, including: basic banking, budgeting, taxation, developing a credit history, loans, credit cards knowledge, fraud prevention and more.

“Financial literacy is one of the first steps on the road to economic strength and independence,” explained Linda Morris, Vancity’s senior vicepresident of member community engagement.

Morris added that her organization is pleased other Canadian credit unions are joining the initiative.

“We are delighted to be part of this national trend, and offering financial literacy to everyone in our community.” said Sarah Millar, Manager of Consolidated Credit Union. “We are pleased to have certified coaches for the Each One, Teach One program and encourage anyone who is interested in hosting or attending a workshop, to give us a call.” To learn more about the Each One, Teach One program, please contact Sandra Hickey (902) 888-5547.
