Festive Fiddler’s Feast set for Dec. 3 in Emerald

-

The Emerald Community Centre is teaming up with Fiddlers’ Sons and Emerald’s Courtney Hogan for an evening of music and Christmas dinner at the third annual Festive Fiddler’s Feast on Sunday, Dec. 3, 5-7 p.m.

It will be a showcase of festive holiday music from the popular band, as well as some foot-stomping fiddle music and nostalgic slow Christmas tunes from Hogan as she continues to promote her best-selling Christmas album, “Holy Night.”

Since 1997, the list of Fiddlers’ Sons accomplishments has grown to rival that of any traditional music group in the Maritimes. The group has been awarded numerous Music P.E.I. Awards and has become one of the most popular groups around the Island. Fiddlers’ Sons was originally the idea of lead singer Eddy Quinn of Cardigan, who performed regularly in a country/rock band.

But with a strong interest in traditional music their playlist now reflects the Scottish and Irish roots of the Island, and includes many original songs written by the band members, not to mention their long list of jokes and stories from around the Island have helped them become a fan favourite with Islanders and visitors alike. “Courtney and the band have been practising a lot for this night,” says Quinn.

“She told me I have fingers like lightning … they never hit the same note twice.” In addition to the music, guests will be treated to a local country comfort-food Christmas dinner including roast turkey, dessert and all the trimmings, with most of the food donated by local community farmers.

Proceeds will go to benefit the community centre and the evening of music and food will take place at the Emerald Community Centre. Tickets are $30 and must be purchased in advance no later than Dec. 1 by calling 902-393-0610 or online at www.emeraldcommunitycentre.com
