STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Congratulations to our most recent Student of the Week – Maura Duffy.

CHRISTMAS KINDNESS AT KRHS

The beginning of December marks the beginning of our Month of Caring at KRHS. This month will be filled with activities that will challenge students and staff to show kindness and gratitude towards others and towards ourselves. We kicked the month off with a week of Random Acts of Kindness.

The staff and the Culinary/ Foods classes will be working together to prepare a turkey dinner with all of the trimmings for the students, bus drivers, and seniors in the community. The turkey dinner will be held on Dec. 20 and prepared with local produce. A big thank-you to Paul Croken for providing the carrots and turnips.

Mrs. McCarthy is extending an invitation to former graduates from a variety of programs to come in to talk to students in Grade 10, 11, and 12 about post-secondary options and life after high school. This will take place the afternoon of Dec. 22. Contact Mrs. McCarthy at jlmccarthy@edu.pe.ca.

FOODS 421 SENIORS’ TEA

The Foods 421 class is excited to participate in a Month of Caring. They plan to host their first ever Seniors’ Tea for the Borden-Carleton Seniors Club on Monday, Dec. 11, from 2 to 2:50 p.m. Each Foods student has been paired with a senior and will act as their host in the school library for a time of celebration.

Students will prepare finger sandwiches, sweets, tea and coffee and will enjoy some time getting to know a senior in our community.

SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS

Peer Tutoring: This is a free hour of tutoring by an older student one hour a week after school and is a great support to students. Contact Lesley Cousins at ldcousins@edu.pe.ca if you are interested in working with a peer tutor.

YULETIDE YIPPEETIME

The ever-popular Yuletide Yippeetime will be back with all kinds of fun contests and activities. These events will take place at KRHS prior to Christmas Break.

ACADEMY DIPLOMA PROGRAM IN AGRICULTURE & BIOSCIENCE

On Nov. 23, the Ag. Pros made the trek to South Freetown to tour Drummond’s Christmas Tree Farm. Bryce Drummond (who was in the first graduating class of the Agriculture Certificate Program in 2003) welcomed us to their thriving 18-acre family run Christmas tree operation.
