Tools, cash and booze stolen among police incidences

Editor’s note: The following is a list of noteworthy incidents and investigat­ions undertaken by Prince District RCMP between Dec. 4 and Dec. 10:

On Dec. 4 around 5 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a report of tools stolen from a residence in Crapaud. The investigat­ion is ongoing.

Injuries in single-vehicle crash

On Dec. 5 around 8 a.m., East Prince RCMP responded to the scene of a single-vehicle traffic collision on Route 119 in Lower Bedeque. The collision is believed to be a result of icy road conditions. One of the two occupants of the vehicle was transporte­d to Prince County Hospital with minor injuries.

No injuries in East Bideford accident

East Prince RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision on Route 163 in East Bideford. The report came in on Dec. 5 around 8 a.m. The vehicle lost control on the slush and ice-covered roadway and entered the ditch. No injuries were reported and the vehicle was subsequent­ly towed.

Damage at St. Louis Elementary

On Dec. 5, West Prince RCMP received a complaint of damage to the school grounds at St. Louis Elementary School. An ATV is thought to have caused the damage the night before sometime after 6 p.m. The investigat­ion is ongoing.

More than 125 stopped in multiple checkpoint­s

During the mid-morning hours on Dec. 5, West Prince RCMP conducted check stops in both O’Leary and Alberton. More than 125 vehicles were checked to detect impaired drivers and to check for violations under the Provincial Highway Traffic Act. Two written warnings were issued as a result.

With the assistance of Kensington Police Services, Summerside Police Services and the Department of Highways, a check stop was also conducted on Route 2 in Kensington, this past week, resulting in one written warning.

Man arrested for impaired driving in Tryon

Shortly after midnight on Dec. 7, an off-duty member of the RCMP contacted the East Prince Detachment to advise that he was following a possible impaired driver on Route 1 in Tryon. The driver ended up driving his vehicle into the ditch.

Shortly after receiving the call, officers arrested the 53-year-old male driver for impaired driving. The man provided breath samples more than twice the legal limit. He is scheduled to appear in Summerside Provincial Court in early February.

Booze stolen from Gateway Liquor Store

On Dec. 8, East Prince RCMP received report of theft from the Gateway Liquor Store in Borden-Carleton. The liquor theft is believed to have occurred the day prior, on Dec. 7 at approximat­ely 3 p.m. The investigat­ion is ongoing.

Cash stolen

West Prince RCMP is currently investigat­ing a report of theft of cash. The owner had reported she accidently left a bag of money at the Tim Horton’s in Woodstock on Dec. 8. When she returned to retrieve the bag, the cash was missing.

Round-up and reminders

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 21 traffic related complaints. The complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erraticall­y and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway.

RCMP will continue to conduct checkpoint­s and patrols throughout the remainder of 2017, in various communitie­s across Prince District. They will target cellphone use, seat belt use, distracted driving and impaired driving.
