The design work and the cost estimates have been completed for a proposed strip mall O’Leary Town Council is hoping to develop in the West Prince town.

What’s needed next, says Blake Adams, councillor responsible for development, is signed leases from interested tenants.

“The interest is absolutely there, but nobody has signed yet,” Adams said during an interview on Friday.

He had brought council upto-date during their monthly meeting on Thursday.

“It’s moving forward,” he assured fellow councillors.

One lease agreement has already been sent out for signatures and another is ready to go. “I’m really hopeful, within a month, the leases will be signed,” he said.

Council is hoping for three tenants.

The strip mall has been proposed for town-owned land next to Home Hardware on Main Street. Adams said a survey has been undertaken to insure the proposed design will fit within the property’s boundaries and he confirmed it fits.

Council is also continuing to work on plans for a subdivision in the town-owned former Pate property.

Adams reported efforts are still underway to complete a water management plan for the property before the first phase of the subdivision plan can get started.
