Campbell has strong showing

In recent IBU Cup action

-

Carsen Campbell posted strong finishes in International Biathlon Union (IBU) Cup action in Europe recently.

The Bedeque native teamed with Sarah Beaudry for fourthplace finishes in the single mixed relay pair event in Sujsoen and Obertilliach.

Campbell’s description of the Obertilliach relay is as follows: “Started the single mixed relay today as my sixth race over 10 days in -13 (degrees) Celsius and tired. Shooting conditions were near perfect.

“Sarah tagged me in fifth after her first leg, and I skied hard to keep us near the front. Unfortunately, I used a few too many spares, and we were playing for third when I tagged Sarah. “Sarah tagged me in sixth, and I was able to use some fast shooting to leave the final bout in third with Ukraine and Norway right behind me. Unfortunately, the Ukrainian was stronger than me, and we ended up fourth, two seconds back of third.”

Campbell, who cracked the top-15 for the first time in his career with a 13th-place showing in the sprint event, was one of the individual members of the IBU Cup team to achieve very strong results. Megan Tandy finished ninth in the Lenzerheide pursuit, and Beaudry placed 10th in individual in Obertilliach. Carsen is enjoying a small break over Christmas before competition resumes January, where he will continue his quest to secure a spot on Biathlon Canada’s Olympic team.
