RCMP respond to car accident, theft and wind-related mishap

The following is a list of noteworthy incidents and investigat­ions undertaken by Prince District RCMP between Jan. 1 and 7:

Two people injured in crash

On Jan. 1 at 4:20 p.m., East Prince RCMP attended the scene of a single-vehicle traffic collision on Route 2 in Miscouche. The vehicle crossed the centre line and went into the ditch, hitting a utility pole. Both occupants of the vehicle were injured and transporte­d to the Prince County Hospital for treatment.

Diesel stolen from fire department

On Jan. 2, East Prince RCMP got a complaint reporting theft of approximat­ely 900 litres of diesel fuel from a tank at the New London Fire Department. The investigat­ion is continuing. Anyone with informatio­n regarding this theft is asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Borden-Carleton man charged and sentenced

On Jan. 3 at about 6 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a report that a 57-year-old male from Borden-Carleton had failed to comply with a no-contact condition on an undertakin­g. Police attended his residence and he was arrested and remanded for court. The following day, the accused pleaded guilty and was given a 24-month suspended sentence, probation and a fiveyear firearms prohibitio­n.

Wind flips trailer

On Jan. 5 at about 8 a.m., East Prince RCMP attended the scene of a single vehicle traffic collision on Route 2 in Springfiel­d, whereby high winds flipped a snowmobile trailer off its hitch, overturnin­g it. There were no injuries in this incident and police provided traffic assistance.

Well-being check turns out OK

On Jan. 5 at 3:15 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a request to conduct a well-being check on an elderly female in Wellington. Police attended her residence and confirmed that she was OK.

Tignish homeowner gets talking to

On Jan. 5 at about 12 p.m., West Prince RCMP got a complaint reporting an individual was depositing snow on the roadway while cleaning out his driveway, causing a traffic hazard. Police attended the residence, in Tignish, and advised the homeowner of the charges that could possibly be laid under the Highway Traffic Act for obstructin­g the roadway.

Abandoned vehicle removed

On Jan. 6 at about 1 a.m., East Prince RCMP were advised of an abandoned truck on the travel portion of Route 133 in Ellerslie-Bideford. The complainan­t advised the vehicle had been there the whole day prior. Attempts to contact the vehicle owner were not successful and police arranged to have the vehicle towed, due to safety concerns.

Busy week for traffic calls

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 10 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erraticall­y and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoint­s and patrols into the new year, in various communitie­s across Prince District, targeting cellphone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
