Cole Harbour wins midget A tournament

Nova Scotia teams meet in final

The Cole Harbour Wings capped an undefeated weekend in Summerside on Sunday afternoon.

The Wings went 3-0 (wonlost) in round-robin play at the P.E.I. Police Associatio­n midget A hockey tournament, hosted by the Summerside Area Minor Hockey Associatio­n at Credit Union Place.

Cole Harbour then topped the Acadia Axemen 6-1 in the semifinals, before defeating the Sackville Flyers 3-1 in an exciting final. The championsh­ip game was not decided until Cole Harbour sealed the win with a late empty-net goal.

Scoring

Matthew Gates, Braden Colman-Sadd and Jacob MacPhee scored Cole Harbour’s goals. Matt Gabriel replied for Sackville.

The Wings led 1-0 after the first period, and the teams entered the final frame tied 1-1. Xavier Cusack backstoppe­d the Wings to the win, and was named his team’s player of the game.

Cusack and goaltendin­g partner Simone Carbonneau shared the tournament’s goaltendin­g all-star award.

Corey Cipolla of Cole Harbour was recognized as the tournament’s most valuable player.
