Wild bounces back at Ice Jam

The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild used a balanced attack to even their record at 1-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses) in the 2018 Chronicle Herald East Coast Ice Jam hockey tournament on Thursday.

The Wild received points from 11 different players in a 5-1 victory over the Rothesay Netherwood Riverhawks in the Major Midget Division.

The Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Pride (1-0) played the Tri-Pen Ospry in a late game Thursday. In the Major Bantam Division, the Central Attack from Charlottetown dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the Bedford Barons; the Novas edged the Prince County Warriors 3-2; the Eastern Express and ACCEL Hawks skated to a 3-3 tie, and the Northwest Bulls shut out the Mid-Isle Matrix 4-0.

Wild 5, Riverhawks 1

Isaac Callaghan (1-1), Frank Fortin, Chandler Wood, Marc Richard and Bradley Campbell dented the twine for the Wild, who held period leads of 1-0 and 2-1.

Clark Webster (3), Evan Gallant (2), Colby MacArthur, Dixon MacLeod, Chase Gaudette and Zac Arsenault contributed assists.

Caleb Coyle, who has allowed two or fewer goals in four of his last five starts, earned the goaltending win.

The Wild plays the Cole Harbour Wolfpack on Friday at 9:30 a.m.

Barons 5, Attack 4 (OT)

Tyler Worth (2), Jacob Squires (1-1) and John MacKinnon scored for the Attack (1-0-1). Alex Graham (2), Ben Watts, Reid Vos, Josh Lund and Matthew McQuaid earned assists.

The Barons led 1-0 after the first period, but the Attack was in front 2-1 at the end of two. Jack Howatt tended goal for Central.

The Attack faces the Wear Well Bombers on Friday at 12:45 p.m.

Novas 3, Warriors 2

Jack Reilly and Mike McRae found the back of the net for the O’Leary-based Warriors (0-2). Zach Biggar (2), Max Chisholm and Sam Hackett set up the goals.

The Novas led 2-1 after the first period, and the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the second. Turner Ellis was between the pipes for Prince County.

Express 3, Hawks 3

The Express jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period, and led 3-1 in the second period. However, the Hawks rallied to tie the game before the end of the middle stanza.

Cole McKeigan, Gabe Hartlen and Gavin Mason scored for the Express, who have one loss and a tie in their first two games. Jack Campbell (3), Seth MacLeod (2), and JT Wood drew helpers. Caleb Drake was in goal for Eastern.

The Express closes out the round robin against the Joneljim Cougars on Friday at 2:45 p.m.
