The 12th annual P.E.I. pond hockey championship is moving to a new location. In partnership with the event’s founder, the West Point Fire Department, the Mill River Resort will host the championship at its campground in Woodstock.

The tournament will be an allday event on Saturday, Feb. 10.

“Mill River is a more central location,” said West Point fire chief Harvey Stewart in explaining the change of venue. “Participants will have the option to grab a bite between games, or they may even choose to make a weekend out of it and stay the night.”

The event, however, remains a major fundraising activity for the fire department. The department plans to put this year’s proceeds toward replacing a pumper truck.

“The West Point Fire Department always does a fantastic job organizing this tournament, and we are happy to be a partner,” said Geoffrey Irving, sales and marketing co-ordinator at Mill River Resort. “We hope to provide a family-friendly venue for the tournament with our winter program activities and post-tournament entertainment.”

Registration of four-person teams continues to be handled by the fire department, either by calling Stephen Stewart at 902-859-3400, or by leaving a message on the fire department’s Facebook page. Mill River Resort tournament packages can be booked by calling 1-844-375-3555.

The tournament usually attracts 30 to 40 teams per year.
