Summerside native Noah Dobson is making a name for himself in Bathurst. N.B., so much so the city has retired the Acadie-Bathurst Titan’s number, 53, and will hang the jersey in city hall. The community wanted to recognize the hockey player for his work on and off the ice.

The City of Bathurst, N.B., has retired a special hockey jersey belonging to a Summerside native. Noah Dobson, 18, plays for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and is quickly making a name for himself in that community.

“It’s a huge honour. Bathurst is kind of a second home to me, (with my) parents being from here. To be a role model and leader in the community is obviously a huge honour and something I take pride in,” said Dobson.

The team recently held its Pink in the Rink fundraiser for breast cancer research, in which players use special pink jersey’s. After the game the uniforms are auctioned off to help raise money for the cause. Dobson reports that there was a bit of a bidding war for his No. 53 jersey, between a family friend and the city itself, which ultimately proved successful. The community decided to honour Dobson for his work on and off the ice by retiring the jersey and hanging it in city hall. There was a ceremony at the city council meeting on Jan. 15 to mark the occasion.

“As a player and individual, Mr. Dobson demonstrates commitment, perseverance and leadership beyond his young years. This is shown in many ways and many around the Chaleur Region, young and young at heart, have taken strong notice,” read a citation by the city.
