Wednesday’s fatal accident was the second on Island roads in two days

-

A motor vehicle collision along Highway Two in Inverness Wednesday morning has claimed the life of a 53-year-old woman from East Bideford. Police report she was ejected from her vehicle

Corporal Mike Lutley with East Prince RCMP said the westbound vehicle left Highway 2 on a curve, then impacted with a ditch and utility pole.

The collision was reported at 6:20 a.m. Prince District RCMP

and Island EMS responded. “A 53-year-old female from East Bideford was transported to hospital and she succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter,” Corp. Lutley reported.

The victim was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

A traffic reconstructionist was still on scene early Wednesday afternoon. Lutley said the cause of the collision hasn’t been determined.

“We’re still investigating. We’re still looking at identifying witnesses,” he said.

The Inverness fatality was the second death on Island highways in less than 14 hours. Kings County RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision in East Point Tuesday at 4:50 p.m. A 71-year-old man from the Kings County area was pronounced dead at the scene. Eastern Kings Volunteer Fire Department and Island EMS attended.

Police have ruled out road conditions as a factor in that collision which also remains under investigation.

The East Point and Inverness collisions account for the second and third fatalities on Island highways so far in 2018.
