Grady sparks Lynx vs. Eagles

In Game 1 of playoff series

Drew Grady had a sevenpoint night Sunday to lead the Southside MacDonald’s Excavation/EF MacPhee Lynx to a 13-3 thumping of the Clory Constructi­on Eagles to start the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League playoffs.

The Lynx lead the best-of-five quarter-final series 1-0. Game 2 is Friday at 8 p.m. in Georgetown.

Southside had 6-3 and 7-3 period leads Sunday at Gateway Arena in Borden.

Grady, Brady Vanderveld­en and Riley Payne each scored three times while Ryan Beckingham scored twice. Morgan Darbyson and Tyson Beckinghan rounded the scoring.

Grady had four assists, Nick Vanderveld­en had three while Darbyson and Cameron Nelson each had two. Singles went to Brady Vanderveld­en, Ryan Beckinghan, Tyson Beckinghan, Frank Watts and Kyle MacGuigan.

Derian Johnson and Dalton Kemp each had a goal and an assist for the Georgetown­based Eagles. Jarrett King also found the back of the net while assists went to Dawson McCarthy, Austin Sorrie and Spencer Arsenault.

Sean MacPhee made 25 saves for the win. Jed Walsh made 25 saves on 36 shots in 45 minutes for the Eagles while Ryan DesRoches stopped seven of nine shots in 15. Southside went 2-for-7 on the power play while the Eagles were 1-for-4.

The Lynx (17-10-1) finished third place in the regular season while the Eagles (1-26-1) were sixth.
