International superstar, Shawn Mendes, will be joining the lineup for this summer’s 10th annual Cavendish Beach Music Festival, and will be headlining the extra day added to the festival – Monday, July 9.

Shawn Mendes will be the headline act for this year’s pop day at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival.

The announcement was made Tuesday in Toronto.

The festival calls Mendes a “multi-platinum-selling international superstar.” He will perform on an added night to the festival, Monday, July 9.

Luke Bryan headline’s the festival’s country weekend. Mendes, has won the People’s Choice Award for favourite breakout artist and the JUNO fan choice award. Festival organizers say Mendes has achieved two number-one Billboard album debuts, two platinum albums and seven consecutive platinum and multi-platinum singles.

Also in the announcement is a welcome to Bell as the title sponsor of this year’s festival.

It is now a three-year title partnership that includes a deal to be the lead sponsor of the festival’s main stage.

Also included in the deal, Bell Media is now the festival’s exclusive media partner.

The news confirms 17 more performers heading to P.E.I. this July.

Headliners will include Chris Young, Brett Eldredge, and Dallas Smith.

They join previously announced headliner Luke Bryan to close out Friday and Saturday nights.

Also performing July 9 will be Lauv, Broods and Cashmere Cat.

More artists will be announced in the coming weeks for every night of the festival, said organizers.

“As music genres blend, we continue to curate an amazing music experience for Atlantic Canada, and beyond,” said Jeff Squires, President of Whitecap Entertainment, producers of the event.

“Today’s announcement of an elevated partnership with Bell, the largest mass-media company in Canada, broadens the reach of festival and Prince Edward Island.”

Over the past 10 years, the Cavendish Beach Music Festival says that it has grown to become “Atlantic Canada’s largest multi-day, outdoor music festival, attracting over 60,000 visitors a year to see some of the hottest names in country music.”

It is nominated for the 2017 Canadian Country Music Association and East Coast Music Association Festival / Event of the Year.
