Moyse, Rissling begin competition Tuesday
The wait is just about over for Heather Moyse.
The 39-year-old Summerside native is the brakeman for 29-year-old pilot Alysia Rissling of Edmonton in the twowoman bobsleigh competition at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The actual heats begin Tuesday, and the medals will be decided Wednesday.
“I have never raced on this track before,” said Moyse. “Alysia, however, raced on this track last year in a World Cup race, and also had a few days of training on it at the start of this season. Personally, I really like the start.
“And the rest of the track doesn’t seem to be too difficult to get down, but finding the speed seems to be the challenge for most drivers. There are certain sections in which speed can definitely be lost.” However, before the races

start for real, Saturday, Sunday and Monday have been designated as official training days. “Whether the teams decide to use all six runs, because there are two runs a day for three days, is up to the teams,” said Moyse.
Moyse and Rissling had two days of training – two runs per day – on the Olympic course just prior to the opening ceremony.
“The first day was a little rough,” reflected Moyse in a phone interview with the Journal Pioneer earlier this week. “According to the drivers the track had changed quite a bit from the last time they were there, just the way the corners were shaped.
“Day 2 was great, everything was cleaned up. It’s kind of a technical track, and there are a lot of G Forces the brakemen have to deal with.
“I really enjoy how the start is, it’s kind of like a gradual slope at the beginning, and it kind of drops off a little bit. It’s a fun start.”
