No shortage of support

Family members and close friends cheering Moyse on in PyeongChang

Heather Moyse won’t have to look far for support when the 2018 Winter Olympics’ twowomen bobsleigh competition begins Tuesday.

Her parents, Dr. Cyril and Sharon Moyse of Summerside, along with her sister, Dr. Heidi Seaborn Moyse and her family, will be in PyeongChang to cheer on P.E.I.’s first four-time Olympian.

Also, Kendra Mills and Dawn Sullivan, who Moyse describes as two of her best friends on P.E.I., along with another close friend from Toronto, are expected to be in the stands. And while Moyse will have a strong cheering section at the Games, she is very appreciative of the fact she has an entire province behind her. “Right now we are enjoying the support from home, and loving hearing about what’s going on,” acknowledged

Moyse.

“It’s great knowing how many people are behind us.” Moyse said she has been “getting a lot of messages on Twitter, Instagram and there’s a lot of people following Instagram stories and the things that are happening on a daily basis, which is really fun.” However, as race day draws closer, will Moyse and Rissling tune out social media to focus on preparing?

“Every team or athlete is going to be a little different to that,” answered Moyse. “We usually call it a media blackout period.

“We will still try and make some posts and keep people updated as to what’s going on, but we may not take in all of the comments that are coming back our way until it’s over.”
