Crunch win playoff series for first time

The Summerside Cover-All Constructi­on Crunch made franchise history on Saturday night. The Crunch overcame a 2-0 first-period deficit to edge the North River Flames 4-3 in overtime to win Game 5 of the bestof-five quarter-final series in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League. It was the first-ever playoff series victory for the twoyear-old Crunch franchise. Summerside will now face the first-place Sherwood-Parkdale Metros in a best-of-five semifinal series that begins at the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottet­own on Monday at 7:20 p.m.

Morris scores winner

At the APM Centre, Colton Morris scored his second goal of the game 43 seconds into overtime to send the Crunch to Round 2. Brandon Arsenault and Matt MacKinnon each collected their second assist of the night on the game-winning goal.

James Birt (1-1) and Brett Cheverie also scored for Summerside, which received a single assist from Remi Arsenault.

Kyle Doucette (1-1), Alex Young and affiliated player Patrick Young, who tied the game just over six minutes into the third period, countered for the Flames. Connor Andrews (3) and Ethan MacFadyen (2) added helpers.

The Flames led 2-1 after the first period, but the Crunch took a 3-2 advantage into the second intermissi­on.

Affiliated player Izaac Ford blocked 25 of 28 shots to record the goaltendin­g win. Sumner Docherty made 35 saves on 39 shots for the Flames.
