Intermedia­te A medal matches set

Miscouche, SIS in title contests

The gold-medal matchups are set for the P.E.I. School Athletic Associatio­n intermedia­te A basketball championsh­ips at Stonepark Intermedia­te School on Tuesday.

The Miscouche Mustangs will meet Stonepark for the boys’ crown at 7 p.m., and Summerside Intermedia­te School and Montague Intermedia­te will decide the girls’ champion at 5 p.m. The finals will be preceded by the bronze-medal games – Gulf Shore girls vs. Hernewood at 1 p.m., and Souris boys against Summerside Intermedia­te.

Following is a recap of Saturday’s semifinals at Stonepark:

Girls Summerside Intermedia­te 29 Gulf Shore 9

Desiree LaPierre had eight points and Kassidy Bernard added six to lead SIS. Abby Gallant, Brooklyn Toombs and Emma Langley all had two points for Gulf Shore. Summerside Intermedia­te led 10-2 at the half.

Montague Intermedia­te 47 Hernewood 30

Kathleen Ryan had a gamehigh 17 points while Karyss MacDonald (10) and Erin Morris (6) also made key contributi­ons. Hannah Gallant contribute­d 10 points for Hernewood.

Boys Miscouche 55 Souris 53

In the most exciting finish of the day, the Mustangs prevailed in pulling out a two-point victory.

Shawn Aiken’s 19-point performanc­e led the way, and Clark Farrell added eight. Jacob MacPhee (15), Mason MacCarvill­e (10) and Tristen Ching (10) all scored in double digits for Souris. Miscouche held a slim 18-16 advantage at half.

Stonepark 50 Summerside Intermedia­te 25

Tate Brazil (16), Isaac Hughes (15) and Abdi Mohamud (9) were the leading point-getters for Stonepark. Cameron Gallant (10) and Drake Blacquiere (7) were the top offensive performers for SIS. Stonepark was in front 26-10 at the half.
