The funeral for Velda Bernard, wife of Cyrus Bernard, was held Thursday March 1, 2018 from the West Prince Funeral Home to St. Simon & St. Jude Church, Tignish where funeral mass was celebrated by Rev. Brendan Gallant assisted by Rev. Albin Arsenault. Rev. Gallant delivered the homily and had the prayers of final commendati­on and farewell. The first reading in french was read by Eileen DoucetteCo­nnors. The second reading was read by Joan Doucette. The prayers of the faithful were read by Helen McKenna all sisters of the deceased. The church choir sang under the direction of Vincent Doucette accompanie­d by organist Diane Handrahan. Procession­al hymn was “Be Not Afraid”. Psalm was “The Lord Is My Shepherd”. Offertory hymn was “Prayer Of St. Francis”. Communion hymn was “Like A Shepherd”. Post communion hymn was “Hail Mary” sung by Lisa Carragher, Marcella Gaudet, Rodney Arsenault and Blair Gaudet. Song of farewell was “Songs of the Angels” and recessiona­l hymn was “How Great Thou Art”. The altar servers were James Hogan, Clarence Gallant, Charlie Bernard and Louie Shea. The pall was placed on the casket by husband Cyrus. The pascal candle was lit by Ava Fall. The gifts were presented at the altar by Megan and Maria Perry. Honorary pallbearer­s were Kyle Pitre, Alexandre Bourgeois, Jeremie Bourgeois, Roland MacLellan, Liam MacLellan, Gabriel Pirch, Eli Fall, Ava Fall, Megan Perry, Maria Perry, Jody Jenkins and Devon MacKay. Active pallbearer­s were Henry MacKay, Daniel Bourgeois, Greg MacLennan, Carl Perry, Curtis Pitre and Terry Pitre. Interment will take place later at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Palmer Road.
