Caps down Slammers
MacArthur extends point streak to 35 games
The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals closed out the home portion of the 2017-18 regular season on a winning note.
The Capitals downed the Woodstock Slammers 6-2 on Thursday night to improve to 32-6-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses). The win moves the Caps one point ahead of the Amherst Ramblers (2610-6-6) into third-place overall in the 12-team MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League).
Before 1,102 fans at Eastlink Arena on a stormy Thursday night, sophomore forward Kallum Muirhead of Charlottetown had two goals and an assist to lead the Capitals offensively. Chris Chaddock and Brodie MacArthur, who extended his point streak to 35 games, each contributed a goal and an assist as the Caps upped their regularseason home record to 21-4. Alex Beaulieu and Morgan MacDonald each contributed single goals for the Caps while assists were credited to Austin Taylor (2), Riley Smith (2), Sebastien Cormier, Brodie MacMillan, Cam Roberts and Jordan Spence.
Conor MacLean and Patrick McCabe replied for the Slammers (12-28-6-2). Sam Cameron contributed an assist.
Period scores
The Capitals took a 1-0 advantage into the first intermission, and extended that margin to 4-1 following 40 minutes.
Overall, the Capitals held a 38-30 shots-on-goal advantage, including an 18-10 margin in the middle frame. Dominik Tmej turned in a 28save effort in earning his 17th win in 21 games with the Caps. Andrew Rose was between the pipes for the Slammers.

The Capitals will close out the regular season on the road against the Miramichi Timberwolves (22-20-3-3) on Saturday night.
The Caps will finish second in the Eastlink North Division, and will open the playoffs on home ice Thursday, March 15, at 7 p.m. The Caps will face either the Timberwolves or Campbellton Tigers (23-22-2-2) in the best-of-seven division semifinal series.
