The Tignish Aces emerged champions of the IO Solutions novice A hockey tournament held at Credit Union Place recently.

The Aces emerged from a field of 16 teams to claim top honours.

After posting round-robin wins of 9-2 over the Kensington Team Two Vipers, 3-2 over the Pownal Team Five Red Devils and 5-1 versus the Summerside Team Four Capitals, the Aces blanked the Morell Mustangs 7-0 in the quarterfinals.

That was followed by a tight 3-2 victory over the Charlottetown Aqua Sharks in the semifinals.

In the championship game, the Aces took on the Pownal Team One Red Devils in an exciting final.

Henry Patterson completed the hat trick with 2:30 remaining in regulation time to help the Aces rally to tie the game 3-3 after James Downey, Max Coffin and Deric Wilson netted singles for the Red Devils.

A five-minute overtime period solved nothing, so the teams took part in a shootout. Ryder Perry would score the lone goal to lift the Aces to the championship. Game stars of the final were Waylon Doucette of the Aces, and the Red Devils’ Rhett Lanigan.
