Vipers take 2-0 lead over Metros

Kensington holds on to win Game 2 before 300 fans

The Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers have taken a 2-0 series lead over the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros in the bestof-seven semifinal matchup in the Island Junior Hockey League.

The Vipers, who opened the series with a 5-3 road win on Friday night, built a 5-1 lead after two periods, and held on for a 6-4 victory in Game 2 on Sunday night, played before 300 fans at Credit Union Centre in Kensington, previously Community Gardens.

The series is scheduled to resume at the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottet­own on Wednesday at 8 p.m., with Game 4 back in Kensington on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Balanced attack

A balanced offensive attack keyed the Vipers’ win in Game 2 as 12 different players registered points. Goals came off the sticks of Nathan Sanderson (1-1), affiliated player Blake Gallant (1-1), Spencer Sherren, Campbell Gallant, Noah Stewart and Garrett Murray. Jacob Stewart (2), Riley Gallant (2), Easton Smith (2), Logan Vanderveld­en (2), Parker Ronahan and Keegan Buchanan chipped in with assists.

Tanner Lund (1-1), Taylor Runighan, Pat McGuigan and affiliated player Connor McGregor countered for the Metros, who trailed 3-0 after one period.

Rett Rook blocked 38 of 42 shots in earning the goaltendin­g win. Alex Kelly stopped 25 of 31 shots between the pipes for the Metros.
