Victoria Playhouse announces lineup for its 37th season

Historic hall will spring to life with the sounds of music, storytelli­ng and dance

Victoria Playhouse is ready to spring to life with its 37th season lineup that opens with a humorous, touching story about finding love in unexpected places, “Dancing lessons,” by Mark St. Germain, on Friday, June 22.

The show promises laugh out loud moments that are braided with a complicate­d storyline on understand­ing ourselves and others.

Opening on Saturday, Aug. 4 is “Myth of the Ostrich,” by Matt Murray. The story follows in the footsteps of a concerned mother, Pam, after she discovers a letter from her teenage son to his sweetheart. Pam turns up unannounce­d to discuss the situation with the other teen’s mother.

The comedy soon escalates when others become involved and, the audience will be left breathless wondering whose head is buried deepest in the sand.

“The Four Tellers” follow and take their unique brand of humorous storytelli­ng with a Victoria twist to the stage starting on Friday, Sept. 7-9.

To close out the season, Catherine O’Brien will sweep the audience off its feet with “Fascinatin­g Ladies,” which opens on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Fascinatin­g ladies is a tribute to the great girl groups of the last century and stars Allison Kelly, Kelly Mooney and O’Brien. The Musical Mondays Concert Series begins Monday, July 2, with the multiinstr­umentalist­s “Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys.”

The Victoria Playhouse 2018 festival season is supported by Confederat­ion Bridge, Tourism P.E.I., Vector Aerospace, and the province.
