Pierre Gallant was handed the keys to the family businesses recently, taking the helm of HMS Office Supplies Ltd. from parents Gloria and Henri Gallant, who ran the company for 35 years.

With a jangle of keys, Henri Gallant hands the keyring to his son Pierre, the new owner HMS Office Supplies Ltd.

“It feels great. It’s exciting. The timing seems right with all the other changes we have happenings right now. But I’m also really happy for my parents,” said Pierre.

Henri and Gloria Gallant, owners of HMS Office Supplies for 35 years are retiring together, leaving their son in charge.

“With Pierre at the helm, I am confident HMS will continue to see success in the Summerside and Prince Edward Island business community. I have taught him everything he knows,” Henri joked.

“And now is his time to shine. As my son and predecessor Gloria and I wish him nothing but the best in this next life adventure. We look forward to watching him make HMS his own.”

He concluded, “My only fear is waking up and having nothing to do.” Pierre began working at the family business as a teenager, returning to the company a few years after finishing college.

Over the years, the family has seen HMS win several awards including 2016 Innovator of the Year from the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce, 2014 Lauriers de la PME Award in the retail business category from RDÉE Canada and 2013 La Chambre de Commerce Acadienne et Francophone de l’Î.-P.-É.

Recently the business went under a rebranding, through bilingual buying group, Hamster, based out of Laval, Que. Gallant says the partnership with Hamster gives HMS the opportunity to offer their customers over 12,000 products with fast delivery and allows for unique small purchases not typically available to small businesses. HMS Office Supplies is located in downtown Summerside and serves all of P.E.I. offering office and social stationary, ergonomic furniture, children’s toys and games, quality printing and most recently, wholesale products.
