Checkpoint­s, crashes and horse wrangling keep police busy

NOTE: The following is a list of some of the noteworthy incidents and investigat­ions undertaken by Prince District RCMP between March 26 and April 1:

Checkpoint­s in Tignish

On March 26 West Prince RCMP members conducted a checkpoint in Tignish. Approximat­ely 120 vehicles were checked and eight received written warnings.

Man injured in Hampton crash

On March 26 at about 6 p.m. East Prince RCMP attended the scene of a single-vehicle collision on Route 1 in Hampton. The 23-year-old driver lost control and hit a utility pole. He suffered minor injuries, was treated and released. The vehicle was towed.

Horse wrangled

On March 27, at about 7 p.m., West Prince RCMP were made aware that there was a loose horse on Route 2 in Carleton. A member attended and stayed on the road with emergency lights until the owner arrived and secure the horse.

Man charged with impaired driving

On March 27, at about 8 p.m., West Prince RCMP initiated a traffic stop on Route 12 in Union. The 29-year-old male driver failed the roadside screening test. He was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and was brought to the detachment for a breath sample. He is scheduled to appear in Court in early May to answer to charges laid under the Criminal Code.
