Teacher’s trial dates set
Dates have been set for two trials to deal with alleged sexual behaviour by a Charlottetown high school teacher.
The first trial for the accused, Roger James Jabbour, is set to start Monday, July 9, at 9:30 a.m. and is expected to run the full week and perhaps longer.
The trial will deal with eight counts – three sexual assault charges, three sexual interference charges and two sexual exploitation charges – arising from three complainants coming forward.
The second trial is scheduled to begin on Friday, Sept. 14, at 9:30 a.m. and continue on Monday, Sept. 17.
The second trial will deal with two counts of sexual exploitation arising from a fourth complainant.
All four complainants are female and all were under the age of 18 at the time of the alleged offences. Three were younger than 16 at the time of the alleged offences.
None of the charges have been proven in court.
Jabbour, through his lawyer, recently elected trial with a provincial court judge for both trials.
He is being represented by Halifax criminal lawyer Joel Pink.
Crown attorney Valerie Moore is prosecuting the case that is expected to garner great public interest.
The well-known music teacher was released on an undertaking in September. He has been on leave from Colonel Gray High School in Charlottetown for several months.
