Wildcats, Storm go to shootout

The Mid Isle Wildcats defeated the Central Storm 2-1 in a shootout Friday at the Atlantic bantam AAA female hockey championsh­ip at MacLauchla­n Arena.

Jillian Kelly-Murphy scored with five seconds to play in regulation for the Storm with Chloe Hawes drawing the assist in a matchup of Island rivals. Emma Langley scored an unassisted power-play goal three minutes into the third to open the scoring.

Emma Arsenault made 23 saves for the win while Frankie Hancock stopped 25 shots in the shootout loss.

The Wildcats have a win, a shootout win and a regulation loss for five points while the Storm has an overtime win, an overtime loss and a regulation loss for three points.

Langley scored five times in the team’s 8-1 win over the Tri Pen Ice from Newfoundla­nd and Labrador earlier Friday. Maddie Thompson had a goal and four assists. Carly Thompson scored twice while Lydia Hamill, Rachel Richards and Bri Hughes each had a pair of assists and Cora Annear added one.

Mackenzie Dingwall replied for the Ice.

Mya Moffatt make 10 saves for the win while Hayley Bishop stopped 32 shots in the loss. The Storm lost 7-0 to Nova Scotia’s Metro West Force earlier in the day.

Jillian Duggan had three goals and three assists to pace the attack while Lucy Phillips had a 20-save shutout. Adrienne Barriault scored twice while Taylor Jeffrey and Rachel Cormier added singles. Emma Bradbury had three helpers.

Hancock and Avery Bradley were the Storm’s goalies. The Western Phantoms from New Brunswick defeated the Ice 4-0.

Action continues today with the championsh­ip game Sunday at noon.
