Recital and concert

Trinity United Concert series offers organ recital and band performance April 15

-

This weekend’s Trinity United Concert has something for everyone.

In recent months, Trinity United Concert Series goers have been seeing the beautiful pipe organ as the backdrop for the concerts at the Summerside church. Requests have been made to hear the pipes at some of the concerts so Louise Elder, the organist at Trinity, will perform a short organ recital on April 15, prior to the regular concert featuring Bluestreak.

Elder is excited to be part of the Concert Series at Trinity and hopes the audience will enjoy listening to the pipe organ in Trinity’s sanctuary. At 1:30 p.m. she will play some familiar tunes, a little Bach and some easy listening organ arrangements to show off the sounds of Trinity’s pipes.

The organist moved to P.E.I. in the fall of 2016 from Ontario with her husband and they are enjoying their new home and province.

She studied piano through her school years and went on to receive her Bachelor of Music from the University of Western Ontario, and during that time, switched from piano to study pipe organ. Bach became one of Elder’s favourite composers. She went on to get her teaching degree and taught in the elementary school system in Ontario where she directed instrumental and vocal classes, bands, choirs and small ensembles. At 2 p.m. on Sunday Bluestreak will take the stage after a 10-year hiatus and the untimely death of their friend and fellow band member, Nathan Condon. Some of the awards Bluestreak has to their credit are, 2004 P.E.I. Music Awards Group of the Year, Album of the Year, Bluegrass Recording of the Year, ECMA nomination for Bluegrass Recording of the Year, 2005 PEI Music Awards Bluegrass Recording of the Year, and ECMA nomination for Bluegrass Recording of the Year.

The audience will be treated to original, non-traditional bluegrass music written by band members Larry Campbell, Andy Paynter, Dave Blue and Roger Wightman. Guests can also sing along to favourites from Prairie Oyster, Johnny Cash, Steve Earle and more.

Tickets are available at the door or pick up advance tickets at the church office (902) 4363155.
