Alex Bernard of Kensington names new RCMP puppy
Lola, a name suggested by Alex Bernard of Kensington, is one the RCMP’s newest puppies.
Each year, the RCMP Police Dog Training Centre offers a contest for children from every province and territory in Canada to name the new puppies entering police dog services.
This year, Alex is the P.E.I. winner with his suggestion of Lola.
The 13 winners each receive a laminated photo of the puppy they named, a plush dog called Justice and an official RCMP baseball cap.
Alex will receive his items from P.E.I. Police Dog Service officers Cpl. Marc Periard and his canine partner Dutch, and Const. Kristian Thomsen and his canine partner Fleck. RCMP police service dog teams search for missing or lost people, track and apprehend criminals, remove illicit drugs from the streets, detect explosives and search for evidence used in crimes.
The puppies, born at the training centre in Innisfail, Alta., were provided names with the first letter “L” and staff
at the centre chose the names from nearly 15,000 entries received from across the country. For multiple entries of the same name, a draw determined the winning entry.
The RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre is the training centre for all RCMP police dog teams in Canada.
